Artisans can apply their skills in a range of different industries including food, construction, agriculture, manufacturing and utilities. Employers want your skills. If you’re interested in construction, the Australian property and construction sector has demand for a wide variety of roles in this area, including jobs in carpentry.²

A job suited to ‘The Artisan’ is often one of the first type of experiences that people have in employment. It’s in the top three. But don’t worry if you’re just starting out, there are many opportunities for people like you. A recent study found that young Australians frequently found their first paid jobs in the Artisan cluster.³

If you like working outside, are keen to be part of a team or want to learn practical skills and crafts you may be suited to working positions like a labourer. Labourers are crucial members of the workforce on any construction project and are often required to operate tools and machinery. While good hand-eye coordination is a plus, you may also be required to prepare and set up sites, clean and maintain equipment and provide support to specialised skilled workers.

We know that it can sometimes be tricky to find jobs close to where you live. The good news is that there are a good number of artisan jobs in regional Australia. You may find opportunities working on farms, maintaining public spaces like parks or working as a trade assistant or electrician.

If you’d prefer to work inside, you may find opportunities as a baker, butcher apprentice, maintenance supervisor or painter. Employers will be looking for reliability and a willingness to learn for these types of roles. You might also need to speak to customers or clients, keep track of schedules and organise payments.
